The metal is melted with electricity in an induction furnace. When necessary, up to 600 kilograms of metal can be melted. The electricity comes from a nearby hydroelectric power station on the Sitter River.
When the temperature and alloy are correct, the molten metal is poured into the molds. The bronze alloy is cast at temperatures from 1,050 to 1,150 degrees Celsius depending on the mold and wall strength.
The quality of the preparatory work is proven in this short casting procedure. Since for the most part only individual pieces are produced in the Kunstgiesserei, there are some things that cannot be predicted and that first come to light in the finished casting, in the case of each piece. In addition to great care and the coming together of all the right factors, a successful casting also always involves a bit of luck.
