The Kunstgiesserei mainly casts models in the lost wax process: from the original, a wax copy is first made. From the copy, a heat-resistant form is produced; in the process, the wax is burnt out and the hollow cavity for the metal is created. The model and material influence whether a shell mold for the form is produced in chamotte, ceramic, or as a sand mold. The casting then takes place using copper alloys such as, for example, bronze, or using metals such as aluminum or iron.

The post-processing of the piece is no less complex than the molding and casting: figures cast in segments have to be put together and welded, seams and surfaces are chased, and finally patinated.

You can read a succinct description of the lost wax process and the steps in the process of creating a final casting based on the example of the Rampin Rider. The lost wax process is documented in an exemplary and more detailed manner based on the molding of the Broderbrunnen by August Bösch.
