What if the Phone Rings, 2003, paraffin/microwax, diverse formats

Urs Fischer carved the originals of the life-size candles shaped like women in Styrofoam. The solid casting of each piece requires 250 kg of paraffin and microwax and is equipped with a branched system of wicks. The colored areas in the finished pieces are created by pouring the colored wax directly into the negative molds. As the sculptures burn, they are transformed by the creation of unexpected deformations and craters. Those who buy these sculptures have a lifelong option to purchase a new sculpture at the production price.
