Born 1962 in Schwyz (CH), lives in Zurich and New York
Ugo Rondinone shuttles restlessly between artistic genres and means of expression. In his work, unrestricted latitudes of activity seem to yearn to make a multiple personality materialize. Visual borrowings from African art, oriental mysticism, romanticism, dramatics, psychological portraits, Pop Art to quotations of other artists are, therefore, accompanied by an often melancholic graveness – to dissolve in the next moment into the ungraspable.
Ugo Rondinone’s work replicates the haste between the manipulating powers of visual language, whose variety often leaves behind bewilderment.
