In his art, Büchel is mainly occupied with room installations that often invite the visitors to actively participate. The realistic reproduction of a specifically chosen reality leads to a deliberate confusion between fiction and reality.
The House of Friction, 2002, variable materials, variable formats
Since 1999, the Hauser & Wirth Gallery has been presenting exhibitions of contemporary art in the Lokremise in St.Gallen, in 2002 uncer the title "House of Friction". In the water tower behind the Lokremise, Christoph Büchel realized the installation "The House of Friction (Pumpwerk Heimat)". The Kunstgiesserei helped him with contruction and with solving technical problems in the final phase.
