The memorial in honor of Katharina von Zimmern is located in the cloister of the Fraumünster, which was originally the convent of the city of Zurich. The work consists of 37 solid copper blocks with a weight of up to 850 kg. The sculpture weighs a total of 11 tons. The casting of pure copper is demanding since the metal has a tendency to absorb gas while melting, which can lead to the formation of internal cavities. The precise milling and grinding of single blocks of such large dimensions also presented a particular challenge.
